Hey Gotraders,
Have you watched Squid Game? It’s the South Korean show that everyone is talking about right now!
The show started streaming on Netflix (NFLX) on Sept 17, and has since topped 100 million views globally! Actually, it has surpassed 111 million views, and has become Netflix’s BIGGEST series launch of all time!
Local broadband provider, SK Telecom even sued Netflix after the show led to a spike in its traffic! Crazy, right?
Squid Game has overtaken “Bridgerton” as the most-watched show. Bridgerton was watched by 82 million households in the first 28 days of its release.
What is Squid Game? Fictional contestants compete in a series of children’s games, hoping to win insane amounts of cash. If they lose, they’re uhh…shot dead by masked guards in red jumpsuits. It’s a high-stakes show and definitely one that is not suitable for the faint-hearted!
Why is this important? Netflix is committed to producing quality content, and they have invested heavily into foreign-language shows and movies like “Money Heist” and “The Platform,” which have both been critically acclaimed. International growth has been a key focus for Netflix in recent years.
Analysts are bullish on Netflix, and believe that they have the right strategy. Bank of America (BAC) reiterated Netflix as a “buy,” while Credit Suisse (CS) increased Netflix’s price target from $643 to $740.
It seems like the streaming wars are intensifying! Apple (AAPL) recently announced that they will be building a regional headquarter in film production city, Culver City, which would make it easier for them to develop content.
The war is ON! ⚔️
