Moderna just came up with a single shot Covid-Flu vaccine 💉
Friday, 10th September 2021 by Gotrade
Hey Gotraders,
Need to get your annual flu vaccine? Need to get your Covid booster shot? Well, very soon you will be able to get a single shot Covid-flu jab.
Moderna (MRNA) just announced that they have a developed a new vaccine, called mRNA-1073, that combines their current Covid vaccine with a flu shot that’s currently under development. Thanks, Moderna! That’s one less jab to worry about. Phew!
“What we’re trying to do at Moderna actually is to get a flu vaccine in the clinic this year and then combine our flu vaccine to our Covid vaccine so you only have to get one boost at your local CVS store ... every year that would protect you to the variant of concern against Covid and the seasonal flu strain” - CEO Stephane Bancel.
What’s the technology behind the vaccine? Moderna’s Covid vaccine was developed using Messenger RNA, or mRNA, technology. The mRNA technology has been under development for years, but Moderna’s and Pfizer’s (PFE) vaccines are the first time mRNA has been cleared for use in humans.
What is the difference between mRNA vaccines and traditional vaccines? mRNA vaccines work by tricking the body into producing a harmless piece of the virus, triggering an immune response. Traditional vaccines use a dead or weakened virus to produce an immune response.
Why is this important? mRNA technology is the beginning of a new age of information-based medicines. Moderna is working on developing a pediatric vaccine, called mRNA-1365, which would combine vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus and human metapneumovirus. They are also working on a personalized cancer vaccine. Amazing!
Shares of Moderna closed 7.81% higher for the day, at $455.92.
